I may be the only one that feels this way - but it somehow seems that our shorter weeks feel much longer than our regular weeks! Maybe it has something to do with dressing up as super heroes and wearing spiffy socks to school? ;)

This week has been a great one! We have had a lot of fun and we've gotten a lot accomplished! Check out our weekly highlights below:

ELA:

- Making Meaning: We have been reading The Raft by: Jim LaMarche. In this book, a young boy, Nicky, goes to visit his Grandmother that lives in a rural area. He isn't too happy about leaving behind his television, but he soon finds activities to entertain himself. While reading this story, we focused on character development. As the story progressed, Nicky had quite the change of heart. Ask your child to hear more details about this... :)

- Being A Writer: In this unit, we have been learning how to write personal narratives. The students have been writing about their memories, household chores and other special experiences. Next week, we will begin the editing and revising process.

- We are currently reading: The Life of Billy Miller by: Kevin Henkes (our author of the month)

Math:

We have made the plunge into learning about multiplication! So far, we have tackled our 0s and 1s. Next week, we will work on our 3s and 4s. PLEASE be studying multiplication facts at home with your child daily!

Social Studies:

We have wrapped up our unit on Geography and we will move onto our unit of the United States regions. If you have an iPad, I highly urge you to spend a couple bucks and download STACK THE STATES. It will be a lifesaver for you, I promise!

Fund Run:

- Fund Run days are finally here!

- Our class goal is $1275 and we are currently at $240

- Please be sending in donations so that we can make a difference in our own school!

- The Fund Run will be Friday, October 21st

A. Our speaker was a Paralympic Rower that participated in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Q. What have you been writing about in your writing journal for your personal narratives?

A. Answers may vary.

I hope all of you have had a wonderful week! :)
