Hello, Multiplication!

Hi there! I hope everyone has had a fantastic week.

I want to start off by congratulating our Character Counts Cardinal of the Month!!

This student is our class’ exemplary student for the character pillar of Fairness. This student shows fairness throughout each day by being kind to the students in our class. He is always willing to share his ideas, belongings and assistance with others when they need it. He is never found to be in the middle of an argument, rather as a peace keeper between students. I am impressed each day by this student's strong sense of character and I look to him as a great role model for our class.

Below you will find our weekly happenings:

ELA:

Making Meaning: We have been reading the book The Paper Bag Princess. In this book, we have worked on looking at illustrations to help us infer underlying meanings in the text. We also have worked on brainstorming character traits of the main character, Elizabeth. Each trait that we brainstorm is backed up by evidence from the text.

Being a Writer: Each child has chosen a story that they have written that they want to contribute to our class book. In preparation to making our book, we have started the writing process. Students have learned how to brainstorm, compose a first draft and revise. We have also focused on finding a strong opening sentence and title. Next week, we will work on editing, writing a final piece and publishing.

We are currently reading: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Math:

We have made it to multiplication! As stated in last week's blog, we will be learning quite a few strategies to help us with multiplying. So far, we have learned arrays, drawing pictures, and repeated addition. Next week, we will go over skip counting and using a number line. Then, we will jump into our x0s and x1s.

Please remember to be practicing multiplication facts at home daily!

Science:

We have started Chapter 3. This chapter is about animal and plant adaptations. Our test will be on October 5th.

Social Studies:

We have finally dipped our toes into social studies. We have focused on the 5 oceans and have learned a catchy song. See below. :)

Table Topics:

Q: What has been your favorite part about Charlie and the Chocolate Factory so far? If you've seen the movie, what has been different in the book?

A: Answers may vary

Q: Can you sing the Oceans song?

A. See lyrics above.

Q: In your ELA folder, you had to write your opinion on if Princess Elizabeth should have tried to save Prince Ronald in The Paper Bag Princess. What did you write?

A. Answers may vary

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Go Dawgs!!
