The Week of Hermine

Happy Thursday, parents!
Despite the bad weather, we've had another good (short) week. :)

We were able to celebrate a special birthday!

We were also able to fit a lot in! Check out below what we have been up to:
ELA:
- For Making Meaning, we have been reading Cherries and Cherry Pits. It is a book about a sweet girl, Bidemmi, who loves to draw pictures of what she sees around her. From this story, we were able to practice visualizing, which is when we look at the words in a book and form mental pictures of what we believe the words are portraying. This is a great reading comprehension strategy for students to use. We will continue working on visualizing for the next few weeks.

- For Being A Writer, we have been reading books about oceans. We have compared and contrasted them by being fiction or nonfiction, having text-features, and having different writing styles.
- We are currently reading: George's Marvelous Medicine by the beloved, Roald Dahl. This is the first book we have read aloud from Roald Dahl but we will continue to do so for the rest of the month of September, as he is our author of the month.
Math:
- We have continued to work on addition and subtraction with regrouping. This will be a huge fundamental skill needed in order to build off of for the remainder of the year. Since we had a fire drill today (Thursday), we were not able to take our test. Our test will now be on Wednesday since we will be making up other tests on Tuesday.
- Please make sure that you are practicing multiplication facts with your child at home.
Science:
- We have started learning about animal groups and finding ways to classify them. At this moment, we have learned about arthropods and fish. Our test will be the week after next.
Table Topics:
