Happy Friday, everyone!!
This week has been a great one! We packed in SO MUCH learning! I hope that your children have been excited to share with you everything that we have been doing in class.
Here's an overview:
ELA (English Language Arts):
- We completed our Me Collages and started sharing them with the class. It has been so much fun to learn about each student!

- We have finished our first week of Making Meaning. Our stories of the week were Miss Nelson is Missing and Miss Nelson Has A Field Day by Harry Allard. We did a lot of predicting and inferring, as well as comparing and contrasting by using a Venn Diagram.
- We have also finished our first week of Being A Writer. We focused on many books by the well-known author, Judy Blume. The students enjoyed comparing their experiences with their siblings to those in The Pain and The Great One.
- We have also learned how to "UNWRAP" our reading passages to make the most of our understanding. See below to understand what the marks on your child's paper represents:

Math:
As you have seen in our Edmodo videos, we have been working on Place Value and Adding w/ Regrouping. Thank you all for being cooperative as we've been starting on Edmodo this week! Since the students will be assessed on the computer for their Math FSA, it is pertinent that they get a head-start in preparing for it. Our Edmodo homework will definitely help them to understand how to take a problem from the computer, work it out on paper, and then answer back on the computer.
Science:
We have had a fun time this week learning about the functions of each part of a plant and how they react to their environment. Below is our cabbage experiment. We were able to predict, observe and explain how the water moved up the veins of the cabbage. The students enjoyed watching it change colors over the period of two days.

As you can see, we've had an eventful week!! Here are some table topics that you can discuss with your child:
Q: Does your sibling remind you of a character in Judy Blume's book, The Pain and The Great One?
A: Answers may vary.
Q: What kind of stories have you been writing about it your Writing Journal?
A. Answers may vary.
Q. Who is your favorite character from Sideways Stories From Wayside School (our class' read aloud book)?
A: Perhaps Bebe, Paul, Leslie, Kathy, Maurecia, Todd, etc.
Q. Can you name a few examples of a Multiple Meaning word?
A. Answers may vary. (IE. slide, bow, rap, etc.)
As always, please let me know if you have questions or concerns about anything that we are doing in class.
I hope all of you have a wonderful weekend!! :)
